Frequently Asked Questions

I currently work with people aged 16+, with most clients being older teens and young adults. I work a lot with neurodivergent people, and my practice is neurodiversity-affirming, so that you can show up unmasked, as yourself.

I unfortunately don’t see children (and they usually benefit from seeing someone in person anyway!).
There are a few areas I’m not experienced in, like substance use, psychosis, or bipolar.
I also don’t see anyone under WorkCover and don’t provide any legal or forensic report writing.

Think of an assessment as a big chat about your life.
Here’s the vibe:
We book a date and time that works for you.
I’ll send over some questionnaires and forms to fill out beforehand.
We meet online and talk through your experiences. You’re the expert on you, I’m just there to listen and guide questions.
I’ll send you a diagnostic statement (having to wait a month for an outcome is draining, so my philosophy is: when I know, you know - usually a week or two after the assessment).
I write your story into a report.
We’ll meet up again for a feedback session to chat, process, plan - whatever you need.
-
Our first session or two is all about learning your story - who you are, why you’re here, and how the stuff in my brain can best support you.
After that, we focus on whatever goals we’ve outlined together. If these goals change, we can just update things.
Honesty is key to me. If you’re ever feeling like something’s not working for you, tell me. Therapy is all about finding strategies and approaches that actually work for you.

I can’t make any promises around NDIS eligibility, these decisions are made solely by the NDIS.
If you get a comprehensive report, it can be used as evidence for a diagnosis, but sometimes you’ll need extra reports from other health professionals to support your application.
For specific questions, it’s best to contact the NDIS directly or your local NDIS office.

For Autism and ADHD assessments, I mainly use:
MIGDAS-2
DIVA-5
I also use other screening and assessment questionnaires, including:
CAT-Q (Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire)
ASRS (Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale)
WHODAS (World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule)

Let’s break this into two, because it’s different for assessments vs. therapy:
Assessments: Not at all. You can just reach out and book. For autism assessments, people under 25 can get a Medicare rebate with a referral from a psychiatrist - but it’s totally optional. If you’re near your Medicare limit it might help, but psychiatrists are expensive, so sometimes the difference isn’t huge.
Therapy: You don’t need a referral to see me, but if you want Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your regular GP, which covers 10 sessions a year.
If any of this was unclear, or if you have any other questions, please reach out here. This is all super general, so I’m always happy to talk through things specific about you.
